Sam Genen


Sam is a consultant solicitor in our actions against public authorities and public law department.

A native New Yorker, Sam has a varied background in practice underpinned by his knowledge of litigation in equality and discrimination law. He honed his skills in America working on death penalty cases and personal injury litigation. In 2017 Sam joined the public law team at Steel & Shamash. He remains a consultant doing prison law in Brixton.

In his varied and diverse career, Sam has developed expertise in group litigation, prison, community care, public, damages and inquest law. He has become known for bringing difficult cases successfully. He is known for his creativity, determination and guile in litigation, he has been described as “able to see points other lawyers don’t.” He largely acts for women and children.

Sam’s work at Steel & Shamash includes:

  • Bringing judicial review claims including urgent proceedings for unlawful imprisonment
