Carl is a solicitor within the criminal department.  Admitted as a solicitor in 2000 Carl joined Steel & Shamash as a senior assistant solicitor in 2009.

Carl has wide ranging experience of all criminal defence work with a focus on Murder, serious assaults, sexual offences, drug and youth cases.  He also has experience of defending cases brought against companies and individuals by the Environment Agency & the Security Industry Authority.  Additionally his background encompassess expert knowledge of the minefield surrounding driving related offences.

Carl is a Duty Solicitor and Magistrates court advocate with extensive experience, which includes conducting trials.

Notable cases include:

R v H a juvenile defendant charged with robbery at gunpoint, acquitted at trial on the basis of duress.

R v D a juvenile defendant part of multi-defendant case charged with 12 gunpoint robberies on Post Offices and Bookmakers as part of a gang in South London.  Reduced to a plea to 2  after weakness in prosecution cases exposed.

R v C Defendant stopped at Heathrow and charged with importing 60 kilos of cocaine acquitted at trial, lack of knowledge.

R v A Defendant charged with rape acquitted at trial.

R v M PLC company and directors charged vicariously with improper disposal of hazardous waste by their agents, acquitted at trial.
